About

Lina and Holly, roommates and best friends, are so close that their respective romantic relationships with Craig and Mark pale in comparison. At 12:01am on January 1, the four friends dream of big plans for the year–everyone except for Lina, who simply hopes to force her growing depression back into its black hole and get through April. To complicate things, she’s lost without Holly–and Holly’s moving out. The strain of Lina’s deteriorating state and the best friends’ codependency takes its toll over the year, and no one escapes unscathed. What will it take to step out of the darkness?

Getting Through April asks us how tightly we’d cling to our emotional armor, even when it’s weighing us down. It asks us how far we’d go for a friend who does everything to push us away. It asks us if we are willing to take one small step out of the darkness and into the light.

REVIEWS

“emotional, meaningful, and structurally sound” | Tyler‘s book and lyrics are plain-spoken, straightforward and easy to follow. The score is more complicated; in fact, the more complicated it got, the better I liked it.“

-Dallas Theatre Journal

Getting Through April is, in the end, about friendship—something we all need and can relate to.” | “Elle Tyler, who wrote music and lyrics as well as the book, has created some really beautiful stuff”
